On this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to promote your Shastic Portfolio on Facebook via the news feed. We added this feature a bit ago based on the suggestions we were getting from our current users. I hope you enjoy it and find value in it for your own endeavours. And of course, if you have any comments or suggestions please shoot us an email via our contact section.

I want to start by making a quick clarification for everyone who is still struggling to understand what the news feed is on facebook. And for this, I'm going to quote the facebook FAQ itself. After all, who better than the creators to explain it right.
“News Feed is a feature that tells Facebook users about their friends' recent activities on the site. The News Feed is the first thing users see on their home page when they log in to their accounts. News Feed drives the viral spread of information on Facebook through networks of friends. It can cause a snowball effect - as something becomes more popular, more people hear about their friends doing it through News Feed, and then do it themselves. This, in turn, causes even more people to hear about it through News Feed, and so on. This can result in literally hundreds of thousands of people hearing about something in just a matter of days. Harnessing the power of News Feed is crucial to accruing a high number of supporters and spreading your message to the most people on Facebook.”

Step One: Publish The Portfolio

First of all, we need to go visit our portfolio of interest on Shastic.com. For instance mine at:

Once there, click on the facebook (f) box on the bottom gray frame of the portfolio.
Fb_box
From here, there are two ways in which to proceed. If you are already logged into your facebook account because you were previously using it, then the news feed story will be displayed in a dialog box. In which case you only have to click "Publish".
Fb_publish
If you were not previously logged into facebook, then a new window will pop up asking you to log in. After you do so, you'll see the news feed story ready to be published.

Step Two: Promote it on Facebook

At this point your portfolio should be posted on your wall on facebook.
Fb_post
Now the goal from here on is to try to push it up in the news feed as much as possible. There is no single way of doing this nor a special recipe and the technicals underneath it can be quite confusing but here are our best tips to boost your portfolio's exposure as much as possible:

Recommendations

The main idea behind promoting via the news feed is that you post quality content and by doing this, facebook will place your post above other posts with a lower quality rating. This is also the main reason why we added the 'post to facebook' button for the portfolios. So that you could easily publish a quality post to facebook that by itself is already pretty good looking and appealing.

1.
Have as many people as you can click on the "Like" button. And we mean everyone you can. Ask your friends, family, classmates, coworkers, anybody. The more people like it, the more relevant the post is on facebook and the more facebook promotes it.
2.
Ask some close friends or coworkers to write a couple of comments to your posted portfolio. Think of it as reviews of your portfolio and ask them to write the comments that way.
3.
Try to use this feature as your main signature for any communication you do on facebook. In other words, use it as a branded attachment every time you want to post a message on a friend's/fan's or even your own wall. This way you are portrayed as very professional while also carrying your 'brand' with you throughout facebook.
There are lots of ways to spread the word about your portfolio and ultimately about yourself as an artist or venue, and this feature while quite simple, is very powerful and we strongly recommend using it constantly.
